According to West African mythology, "Aziza" is a benevolent entity that offers magic to hunters and practical and spiritual knowledge to anyone who approaches—a beautiful metaphor for this quartet. This group is formed around double bass player Dave Holland, who has always counted on the younger generations to create music, true to what Miles Davis taught him. On tenor and soprano saxophones (and flute), Chris Potter; on guitar, Lionel Loueke and on drums, Eric Harland. With a single album, titled—of course—Aziza (2016), Holland, Potter, Loueke and Harland multiply the power of this super quartet live. "You can imagine the band smiling as they left the studio. Indeed, these guys like playing together," wrote Will Layman in Popmatters when the recording was released. May we imagine ourselves heading towards Paral·lel, one night in Barcelona's jazzy autumn, with that immense smile, under the influence of a loving and fruitful spirit.
