Carmen is all about a femme fatale, and the themes of love, envy, sensuality and death. The novel by Prosper Mérimée and above all, the opera by Georges Bizet have immortalized these base passions in the form of art, encapsulating the essence of the most savage and unadulterated of feelings. Uruguayan composer José Serebrier adapted some of the best-known fragments of Bizet's Carmen for orchestra, like the legendary habanera “L'amour est une oiseau rebelle” finishing with the brilliant finale from the “Danse bohème” which opens the second act of the staged version of the opera.
