Beyond Utopia is a compelling portrayal of people’s unwavering determination to gain the freedom they yearn for. This documentary chronicles the experiences of individuals who were raised believing that North Korea was a utopia, and now find themselves attempting to escape their homeland in order to survive. Any misstep could lead to severe punishment, or worse, execution.

Filmmaker Madeleine Gavin makes her debut in the documentary scene with this gripping narrative of life and death. Beyond Utopia has won the Audience Award at Sundance and has since garnered nominations for prestigious awards, including the BAFTA and the Critics’ Choice Documentary Awards.

Film will be screened in original version with subtitles in Spanish.
