One of the most important dance companies in Europe returns to the stage at Peralada for a second successive evening with a triple bill that once more demonstrates the rich repertoire at the company’s disposal. Part of this attractive program is Ratmansky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, a joyful and carefree piece that the acclaimed choreographer created for New York City Ballet with Mussorgsky’s famous score for the piano. In the piece, Ratmansky invites the dancers on a playful journey through various parts of the world. A piece that, although it is based on classical ballet technique, constantly takes the dancers outside their comfort zone with rapid turns, innovative steps with contemporary port de bras and lively jumps, all in harmony with the music, which sets the pace, the melody and the mood of the dancers, as changeable as the Kandinsky water colors that make the stage. Also coming to Peralada is Affair of the Heart by David Dawson, with the music of Concert for Violin and String Orchestra by Canadian composer Marjan Mozetich. It is the perfect opportunity to see the special connection that exists between music and dance, how the body becomes melody, and how we can all be dancers. A piece that, as its creator explains, "deals with love itself. 'These affairs of the heart' are an ode to love. It is a love sonnet. It is joyous, passionate, inflamed. It is alive. It is a celebration of being." The program is completed by Rubies by George Balanchine. The central part of the famous abstract ballet Jewels, which radiates seduction through the aesthetic of musical theatre. Delicacies for a summer’s evening.
