The definition of fame, success and power was very different than today: being a penniless but published poet was the pinnacle of success until that all changed in the early 1980s. This is the history of New York before that change. Jean-Michel Basquiat's life and work were defined by a search for identity, but this film not only examines the artist’s life—it also evokes the pathos of Black American artists in the the conservative, highly racist America of the Reagan years. 

The documentary will be screened in French with Spanish subtitles.
