Jamboree Jazz Club Plaça Reial 17, 08002 Barcelona
Born in 1945, self-taught and heavily influenced in his early days by Sidney Bechet’s playing, André Villeger is a bebop-inspired saxophonist who has collaborated with some of the biggest names in jazz throughout his long career, from Milt Buckner, Harry “Sweets” Edison, Frank Foster, Lionel Hampton and Benny Carter in the 1970s to Michael Brecker and Wynton Marsalis in the 2000s. He has played in the great bands of Claude Bolling, Quincy Jones and Gunther Schuller.
He has also been honored on several occasions by French cultural authorities: the French Jazz Academy awarded him the Sidney Bechet prize in 1973 and the Prix du Jazz Classique in 2015. He has been a “Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et Lettres” since 2005. He will be accompanied on this occasion by the trio of pianist Ramona Horvath, double bassist Nicolas Rageau and drummer Esteve Pi.
