Music and dance form an artistic symbiosis, where sincerity and simplicity become a driver for catharsis. The Barcelona Symphonic Band presents various works with notes based on dance rhythms. Xavier Pagès-Corella develops in Variacions Grotesques various dance forms based on a harmonic progression taken from a comic opera that he wrote himself, entitled Bruna de nit. Agustí Borgunyó wrote L’Aplec in New York as a tribute to a dance festival in Catalunya. The English composers Benjamin Britten and Lennox Berkeley were inspired by different Catalan dances to write the suite Mont Juic. The ballets of Miquel Asins Arbó comment on four dance forms — the mazurka, the habanera, the foxtrot and the march—based on four popular Valencian melodies. With Puigsoliu, Joaquim Serra i Corominas pays tribute to descriptive music through traditional rhythms.
