Improviser, composer, and extraordinary performer, Alex Hitchcock is one of the most prominent names in contemporary jazz in the United Kingdom and beyond. His international dimension transcends borders and captivates musicians and experts worldwide—a “virtuoso and daring” musician, according to Jazzwise magazine; the “leader” of the new British jazz, according to Linley Hamilton of the BBC; and “an incredible saxophonist with something unique and original to offer,” in the words of Walter Smith III.

As a composer, Hitchcock reflects on the creative and human universe of the musicians he collaborates with. At Jamboree, where he has performed several times, he arrives this time with a band composed of great musicians from the British, European and U.S. scenes. It is a supergroup with which he has released the album Live in London (Whirlwind Recordings, 2023), recorded at the legendary Vortex. He is joined by Dave Adewumi, sideman for Jason Moran and Ingrid Jensen; Lex Korten, collaborator of Melissa Aldana and Tyshawn Sorey; Orlando Le Fleming, serving Jeff ‘Tain’ Watts and Mark Guiliana; and JK Kim, drummer for Aaron Parks and Dayna Stephens—a true dream team.
