American rapper and poet Akua Naru arrives in Barcelona with her latest album, All About Love: New Visions (2024), inspired by African-American and feminist activist Bell Hooks. Recorded with the collaboration of the string ensemble Ensemble Resonanz, it addresses social issues and links them with the concept of love—”love is a way of being free,” she says at the album presentation.
Since she debuted with her first album, The Journey Aflame (2011), Akua Naru has become one of the most unique voices in the hip-hop scene, with a style influenced by soul and jazz and an unequivocal commitment to music, society, culture and the political struggle of the African-American people. She has collaborated with Tony Allen, Angelique Kidjo, Christian Scott, Mulatu Astatke, Bernard Purdie and others.
