African Music and Art Festival

Sala La Nau Carrer d'Àlaba 30, 08005 Barcelona
This year, Amafest (African Music and Art Festival) will be dedicated to the genre of Afrobeats and will feature the best bands in Spain: Ogun Afrobeat, Marga Mbande and the Afrobeat dancers, Wahala Dance Group.
Ogun Afrobeat is the first Afrobeat band in Spain with authentic Yorùbá culture. Led by Akindimeji, from Lagos, Nigeria, one of the best African percussionists in Spain, and backed by a powerful rhythmic and horn section, the group presents an amazing live show. Ògún stands out for its original use of the native rhythms of the Yorùbá culture and its mixture with other African artistic forms, funk, disco and soul, always respecting the spirit of Fela Kuti, creator and undisputed star of this genre created in the 1960s.
Marga Mbande, born in Barcelona with Equato-Guinean roots, grew up surrounded by African and soul music. She interprets different covers as well as her own songs, with influences of reggae, dancehall, electronic dance music and Afrobeat. She's an artist who feels comfortable with the Afro-soul and Afro-pop labels and who explores her roots through music. As she affirms, “I seek to connect with the public and I am satisfied when I feel that this happens.”
The festival features Wahala Dance Group, a dance group made up of young people from Barcelona, and most of its members are girls. Wahala Dance Group will give a master class in African dance available to those attending Amafest.
