A Thousand and One, A.V. Rockwell (USA, 2023)
Inez navigates a complex life, yearning for change. That is why she kidnaps her son Terry from the foster care system and commits to offering him the opportunities she believes every Afro-American boy deserves in the ever-shifting New York City. Life’s challenges persist, putting her resolve to the test.
Recipient of the coveted Grand Jury Prize at the 2023 Sundance Film Festival, A.V. Rockwell’s directorial debut reveals a blend of sensitivity and strength throughout its 117-minute runtime. Featuring outstanding performances, particularly the compelling portrayal of the resilient mother by Teyana Taylor, the film unfolds against the backdrop of a changing NYC, spanning the past few years (and featuring the Twin Towers). It paints a vivid picture of the humble lives of courageous characters who, beyond their community and nationality, grapple with universal fears and life experiences.
Film will be screened in original version with subtitles in Catalan on March 6th and in Spanish on March 8th.
