Metropolitan Culture Corner: Xavi Mercadé

by

Welcome back to the Metropolitan Culture Corner, hosted by singer, songwriter and longtime Metropolitan collaborator Tori Sparks. Our interview last month was with award-winning poet, author, screenwriter, lyricist, and commissar of the BCNegra literary festival, Carlos Zanón. This month, we invite you to sit in on another special quarantine edition of the MCC with rock photographer and co-founder of Enderrock magazine, Xavi Mercadé, a.k.a. “The Man Who Is Always There.” Over the past four decades, he has photographed everyone from local bands to the Rolling Stones, and yes, he has been known to sneak a camera into a concert disguised as a sandwich.

Coming up next month: we sit down with Cuban-American visual artist Jorge Rodríguez Gerada, whose massive works of art can be seen from the air. The coronavirus pandemic put some of his projects on hold but starting this summer he’s back in creative mode with several exciting new projects on the horizon.
