Madrid looks to annul Catalan referendum committee
In another move that escalates the row over the planned Catalan referendum on November 9th, central government has challenged the legality of the recently appointed electoral committee. President of the Catalan Generalitat, Artur Mas set up the committee to oversee the vote.
Airport metro to begin testing soon
The first metro line to the airport will begin testing in November. The new stretch of Line 9 will go from the Zona Universitaria to Terminal 1 and will open in February 2016.
Guardia Urbana arrested for money laundering and prostitution charges
The Guardia Urbana recently arrested for their part in the money laundering of profits from prostitution have been accused of warning clubs about imminent inspections. For their services they were paid up to €3,800 per month by the clubs.
The new Diagonal taking form
The works on Diagonal are beginning to show their fruits, with much wider pavements and narrower side lanes for vehicles. One issue that has been raised has been the bike lane which is frequently invaded by motorbikes.
19 people arrested for biggest ketamine haul in Europe
The Policia Nacional have discovered a consignment of 150 kilos of ketamine in Barcelona, making this one of the biggest hauls ever of this type of drug. Nineteen people from the organisation which brought the drug from Latvia to Spain have been arrested.
