A day in the life: Hunter Modica

Let’s say it’s a Wednesday…

7:30 As if there were a mosquito buzzing relentlessly in my ear, I quickly smack at my phone to hit snooze on my alarm clock. Needless to say, I find my alarm clock irritating at this hour.

8:00 As my alarm resounds, I finally feel like I’ve gotten enough sleep. So, I sit up in bed, check my email and update myself on the news. Life Hack: bright screens help wake you up; so I read the Skimm. Eventually, I muster up enough energy to sulk to the coffee machine—rejuvenation, at last.

9:30 If the weather is nice, I grab my bicycle and cruise down Avinguda Gaudí, straining my neck as I stare in awe of Gaudí’s masterpiece, La Sagrada Familia. Drifting through to Carrer de Girona, I breeze across the center to reach my destination.

10:00 I slide-brake my bike in front of the Cien HQ entrance, where my bike and I proceed to ascend until I arrive at our offices, tactically perched, in Cloudworks—the stunning coworking space where our AI-first startup, Cien, Inc. is located.

10:15 Daily Stand-up, which consists of discussing our marketing, prospecting, and sales efforts. As a whole we are in search of building a scalable business model while facing conditions of uncertainty, much like our customers.

10:45-13:30 While our primary focus is on the US market of B2B tech companies, the time zone difference is significant, and most of our clients are sound asleep. This gives us time to schedule responses to client emails, send meeting reminders to potential customers, and strategize on how to connect with new prospects.

14:00 Lunch with my coworkers, which often consists of raving about our weekend adventures and any upcoming events in Barcelona.

15:00-18:15 I’m active with sales calls and client meetings as the work day comes to a close.

19:30-23:30 Since it’s Wednesday, my boyfriend and I head to yoga. After many a downward dog and savasana, we enjoy a nice dinner date.

Other evenings, I head to my favorite cafe to socialize with friends and if I have any upcoming English classes to teach, I lesson plan. If not, I usually read or do a bit of line design, and of course, play some pool.

23:30-24:30 Pretty basic: pajamas, Netflix, and some sound sleep to follow.
