Borrell Clínica Veterinària

This friendly neighborhood clinic has its own lab, diagnostic equipment, surgery and hospital facilities, including separate areas for cats to help minimize stress for your feline friend. They also offer a grooming service and a shop stocking local and sustainable products. As well as all standard treatments and preventative care, the small team is specialized in oncology, dentistry and dermatology.

Barcelona resident Sinead Newman says of vet Marina Fernández, “Hands down the best I’ve found,” adding, “It’s a really nice space and has lovely stuff in the shop that I haven’t seen in a lot of other places. I’m a fan!”

The clinic is open Monday through Friday and Saturday mornings. General consultations cost €40 and they accept a number of insurance policies.

Hospital Veterinari del Mar

Hospital Veterinari del Mar has a team of specialist vets, lab, surgeries and hospitalization facilities, and is equipped with state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging technology. They treat both the usual suspects (dogs and cats) as well as exotic pets and have separate feline facilities. In addition to standard treatments and surgeries, they offer physio & rehab and an animal behaviorist.

The hospital prides itself on open communication and good client relationships. Laia Sánchez says, “We try to involve the owner in every decision made about their pet, so they participate in the process, allowing them to understand each step of the diagnosis, treatment or hospitalization.”

HV del Mar is open Monday through Friday and Saturday mornings, with 24-hour, year-round emergency services. General consultations cost €30 (€45 for exotic animals) and they accept SantéVet insurance.

L’Animalari

Tucked away down the winding streets of the Born, this small, friendly clinic has in-house diagnostics, lab, surgery and hospitalization facilities. Head vet Jesús and his team pride themselves on building close relationships with clients and come highly recommended by expats. Julie Stephenson says, “Twelve years of excellent service. Jesús speaks perfect English. Highly recommend and all my friends who use them would say the same.” The clinic has a shop and grooming service and can also do consultations in German if required.

L’Animalari sees patients Monday through Friday and Saturday mornings and also does home visits. They don’t take insurance but can recommend providers that accept invoices for reimbursement.

Hospital Veterinari Glòries

This large hospital is equipped to perform a wide range of diagnostic tests, treatments and surgeries. The 20-strong team includes specialists in a range of fields like internal medicine, neurology and oncology. HVG is accredited “Cat-Friendly” by the International Society of Feline Medicine thanks to its dedicated facilities, and also treats exotic pets. Barcelona resident Suzanne Wales says, “I recently took my cat [to HVG] and their service was amazing! In fact, it was cheaper than doing the op at my local vet.”

Consultations start at €41 and Mussap, Mapfre, Agrupació and Allianz insurances are accepted. Hours are Monday-Friday and Saturday morning, with 24/7 emergency service year-round.

HV Montjuïc’s team is specialized in different areas of veterinary medicine and treats both everyday and exotic pets. They are especially known for expertise in neurology and ophthalmology (eyes). The hospital has its own lab, complete with a brand-new MRI machine and other diagnostic equipment. There’s also a grooming service, shop, canine café and even a pool for physio & rehab! They take professional training seriously and have an ongoing program of seminars and courses.

The hospital is open Monday-Friday, with 24/7 emergency service all year, and accepts Asegurança Salut Veterinaria insurance.

A few minutes’ walk from Mirasol ferrocarril, the clinic has everything for diagnostics, surgery and hospitalization. In addition to standard treatments, Mirasol specializes in traumatology and ophthalmology. They also offer innovative stem cell therapy & regenerative medicine for a range of conditions.

The clinic is open Monday through Friday and Saturday mornings and also does home visits. Outside those times, it’s one of the few in Sant Cugat to offer 24-hour emergency service. General consultations are €35.80 and they take SegurVet insurance.

Serving both the expat community and visiting tourists, Sala Gorön has a large team of specialists and is known for expertise in cardiology, traumatology, dermatology, neurology, internal medicine and surgery. They treat exotic animals as well as unexotic ones, and have separate hospitalization areas for cats and infectious patients.

The hospital is open Monday through Saturday and 24-hour emergency service is available year-round. General consultations are €40 (emergency consultations €77) and, as part of the Veteralia group, they accept Veteralia Protect insurance and offer a loyalty card.

Centrally located just off Carrer Major, Dr. Xavier Tortusau’s team are experts in traumatology, orthopedics and neurosurgery and equipped to tackle complex surgical procedures. They also offer stem cell therapy, physio & rehab as well as behavioral and nutritional advice.

The clinic also has a shop and is open Monday through Saturday, with 24-hour emergency service. They accept a number of insurance policies and general consultations cost €49.
