Barcelona, Top University City

Barcelona has been ranked as the most popular Spanish city for young international students to study in, and is positioned as the 23rd most popular in the world. According to Top Universities, the most highly valued reasons for its reputation include the city’s surroundings, businesses, geographical location, available leisure activities, and rich culture. All of which is in addition to the prestige and quality of the education system, where Barcelona is home to some of the best universities in the world. This excellent combination is the reason why, year after year, international students choose Barcelona as a place to study, take part in a stage or expand their academic training.

Choosing a master’s program is always an important personal and financial investment. Not all graduates are sure about which specialisation they want to focus on. That is the reason why schools, such as UPF Barcelona School of Management, offer the possibility of enrolling on a taster course through their intensive summer programme at the Summer School. The programme features a range of multi-disciplinary subjects, which enables new graduates try different specialisations and gain access to the best resources to help them plan their future careers. Under the guidance of academics, this extra learning period helps even the most indecisive youngsters to define which speciality they are particularly passionate about, and which direction they want their careers to take. The Academic Director of the Summer School, Carolina Luis, claims “this intensive course provides multi-disciplinary training applicable to all professional fields, and also gives students a taste of the methodology and specialisations typically offered by a Master of Science”.

The Summer School course runs for two weeks, from July 3 - 18, 2017. During the first week, students share common subjects related to strategic management across different fields, such as business, technology, creativity, innovation, sales techniques and negotiation. There will also be the opportunity to learn how to create, design and produce a successful project, drawing on subjects such as analytics and Big Data to help promote analytical and decision-making skills. In the second week, broaden their knowledge of one of the three specialisation-branches offered by the school:

The course is delivered by teaching staff from the Masters of Science at UPF Barcelona School of Management, trained by renowned academics and professionals from Pompeu Fabra University, which is ranked as the top Spanish university for productivity in teaching and research according to U-Multirank. Pompeu Fabra University was also listed as one of the top ten universities in Europe, and the positioned as 15th in the world, according to Times Higher Education Ranking (2016).

The academic programme combines morning classes with linguistic and cultural activities in the afternoon. The schedule ranges from language courses to renowned company visits around the city of Barcelona, such as the Moritz Beer factory, the famous fashion retailer Mango, and the stadium of prestigious football club, FC Barcelona. All classes at the Summer School will be given in English by lecturers from the Masters of Science of UPF Barcelona School of Management, and are aimed at helping young students discover their professional passion.

Study a Master of Science

Master of Science programmes stand out for their entirely scientific methodology, very much focused on analysis and data processing applied to the business world. Their aim is to train professionals in management from an analytical, strategically-orientated perspective, with a broad view and the capacity to meet challenges. Programmes are currently offered in Management, International Business, IT Strategic Management, Business Analytics, Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Finance, and Banking. These programmes are aimed at young graduates interested in management of the future, and classes will be given entirely in English in a highly international environment. Only 16% of students on these programmes are Spanish, where the majority of students come from Europe (Germany, Norway, Austria, United Kingdom, and Switzerland), Asia (Turkey, China, and India), and more. This international element is also highly valued by the companies who use this experience to benefit from young talent with different visions and perspectives.
