How Long Have You Been in Barcelona?

I've been in Barcelona for 14 years and I've been running BCN Ideal Services for nearly three years.

What Does BCN Ideal Services Do?

BCN Ideal Services is an online staffing agency that provides housekeeping services, including school cleaning, private residential and commercial cleaning services, as well as at-home massages and property management overall.

Who Are Your Ideal Clients?

Our target market is the international English speaking expat community in Barcelona that come from diverse countries and parts of the globe, for example the US, the UK, Asia, Russia and other parts of Europe and the world who need support while living in Barcelona as expats.

What Brought You to Barcelona?

I come from the south eastern part of the Philippines, and when I was still in school I always dreamed of going abroad. 

After working as a corporate employee for six years I realized it was not fulfilling enough for my life, so I decided I was going to take a short course about nursing. I took the course in Singapore as a nursing aid and I applied to go to work abroad in Canada or Spain. 

The latter proved to be more efficient as I got the Spanish VISA after three months of waiting. I am so happy that BCN Ideal Services is now a reliable partner for Barcelona’s expat community, supplying them with services they need in a language they are comfortable with.

How Do You Add Value to the International Community in the City?

As an expat myself, as well as working with a team full of expats, we all understand just how important it is to have reliable support in a country with a foreign tongue and with a vastly different culture. This is exactly what BCN Ideal Services take into account when working with our clients.

What Did You Do before BCN Ideal Services?

I was a massage therapist for four years but when COVID hit, I was unfortunately left without a job, so I decided to co-found Medicine Nurses first as a company and then I decided I was going to launch BCN Ideal Services by myself as I've witnessed the need to solve the challenges faced by expats when living abroad, oftentimes far away from their family members.

What Do People Not Know About Your Company?

Okay, there are two main things. Firstly, aside from serving the Barcelona international community, we also offer services and operate in many other European markets: Switzerland, Monaco, France and Portugal just to name a few. 

Secondly, we also provide services to ultra high net worth individuals who have unique needs that must be taken care of. They trust us to both be discreet and supply them with appropriate professional services.

What Is Your Biggest Challenge as an Entrepreneur?

I've been living here for 14 years and throughout this time I have realized I really struggle with my knowledge of the Spanish language. 

This is due to the fact I work intensely and daily with English speaking people. Unfortunately this hinders my ability to improve my Spanish. I admit that I have to push to learn, dive deep into the language and give myself time to study more of it as well as to practice using it on a daily basis. 

Nonetheless, this small challenge has not limited me from becoming a successful businesswoman in the Barcelona market, because I know that the large expat community here speaks English. 

That is why my target market is the International Community; because I discovered I know how to communicate with them and I know how to do so effectively.
