Mostra de Films de Dones

At the recent Cannes Film Festival, the New Zealand director Jane Campion called on more women to make films.

Arguing that the film industry remains “an old-boy system”, Campion would doubtless be gratified to see that here in Catalunya, the local International Women’s Film Festival is celebrating its 17th edition this month. Over 10 days, more than 50 films made by women from around the world will be screened: highlights, of which there are many, include the latest work by acclaimed French director Agnès Varda, Iranian film Rough Cut that examines the role of women in that country, and an open-air inauguration in the Plaça de la Virreina with the award-winning Pandora’s Box.
