Although you won't find many B&Bs in Barcelona, there's a few worth a look

1. The5rooms

Pau Claris 72, Tel. 93 342 7880, www.thefiverooms.com. Per night: from €135 - €165 per night for a double room including breakfast. They also offer suites from €155 - €185 per night and self-catering apartments for 1-2 people from €175 per night (based on a minimum stay of 3 nights).

It may seem hard to believe, but breakfast is served nearly any time of day at this B&B. Peacefully tucked away but within two minutes of Passeig de Gràcia, and five minutes from Las Ramblas. Rooms are stylishly decorated with art and a variety of textures, and the rates include breakfast.

2. Petit Hotel

Brightly painted walls lend a cheery feel to the four rooms, two of which have en-suite bathrooms, while the other two have private but exterior bathrooms (which are slightly larger and a lower room rate). Breakfast is not included in the rates and is served from 8.30am-1.30pm.

3. Anita’s B&B

August Font 24, Mount Tibidabo, Tel. 93 254 6793, www.anitasbarcelona.com. Per room per night: €69 - €88, double with breakfast for two.

If fresh air and panoramic views sound appealing and you don’t mind a 20-minute taxi ride into the city, then book one of the three rooms in this cosy setting. Each room has a balcony and private bathroom, and third bed can be added to any bedroom for €20.

4. Ally’s Guest House

Bruc 150, Tel. 93 459 0343, www.allysguesthouse.com. Per night: €35-€60 per person; double available

The 11 bedrooms are individually decorated, with four shared bathrooms. Location is convenient, close to the Sagrada Familia and five minutes from Passeig de Gràcia. Continental breakfast included in the rates is served from 8.30am-10.30am.

5. Casa Dover B&B

Carrer de Còrsega 429, Tel: 672 250 387, www.casadover.com. Per night: €90 - €100 per double or twin room with continental breakfast.

Located in the trendy area of Gracia with excellent transport links to areas throughout the city. Baby cots can also be provided for an extra €10. Very highly recommended.

6. Bed and Beach Barcelona

Opened its doors for service in May 2010, located in a comfortable and relaxing 1902 building in the Olimpic Port area only 5 minutes walk from the beach. Boasts a 40sq/m rooftop terrace with 330˚ views of the city. Three bedrooms, one double with en-suite from €58 - €62 and two twin rooms from €48 - €58. Has a common kitchen in which you can cook your own meals, free WiFi.
