US nationals: how to vote in the presidential elections

The next US presidential elections take place on November 6th, 2012, and it looks like being a close-fought battle between Democrat incumbent Barack Obama and the Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

US citizens living abroad can take place in the vote, but they have to make sure that they register on-line if they haven't already done so this year—a change to the law resulting from the Military and Overseas Voter Empowerment Act (MOVE) means that US nationals now have to register to vote and request their ballot every election year. To register, go to www.votefromabroad.org and fill in the information requested by your voting state.

The deadline for registering and requesting your ballot varies from state to state, but many have set a date in early to mid October for the former and late October to early November for the latter. See details on the Overseas Vote Foundation website here.
