Where are you from and what is your business background?

I'm from Santiago de Compostela in Spain. My business background is in social media marketing. I started working in that field in 2007 and founded a Social Media Marketing Agency in 2009.

Tell us about your business

We provide access to top nightlife events on a vip guestlist through our web portals. We also provide a bespoke table booking service to the top clubs.

Where did the original idea come from for your business?

Nightlife web portals were very rare in 2006. Promotion of clubs was carried out via phone calls, SMS and even by post. Internet had no relevant role in the sector, contrary to what was already happening in flights reservations, restaurants, travel and tourism. We were one of the first to fill that gap, and we took advantage of the advent of social networks such as Facebook.

What are the positive aspects about having a business here?

Barcelona has always been a hub of nightlife and entertainment, so demand was high from the beginning. The Barcelona brand has been selling well to tourists for the last 15 years.

How long did it take to get your business off the ground?

The promotion of nightcubs was highly affected by social media. We were the pioneers of that in 2007 and the results came quickly

What do you wish you’d known when you started?

I would have had more idea on how to establish successful collaborations with other companies, which is a key factor in growing.

How easy was it get the financing for your business?

It was very easy since it was cash flow positive from month one.

Did you have any difficulties registering your business?

Not really, apart from the fact that Spanish company registration takes more time than the same process in Ireland or the UK.

Did you get help from any particular official organisations or associations?

We got the early support of student associations dealing with international students, such as AEGEE Barcelona.

Are there any other useful contacts, tips or information you think would be useful to other foreign entrepreneurs in Barcelona? Please describe

It all depends on your business, but anything related to tourism makes sense in Barcelona.
