INGREDIENTS

METHOD

  1. First preheat the oven to 180ºC. Grease and line two 20 cm round baking pans with some grease-proof paper.
  2. Using an electric hand mixer or freestanding mixer, cream the butter and sugar together until smooth and creamy. Then add the four, eggs and mix well. In a separate bowl, sift together the self-raising flour and the baking powder. Then, add the flour to the cake batter and mix well until everything is incorporated.
  3. Divide the cake mixture evenly between the two pans and bake in the oven for around 25 minutes. To test the cake is cooked, place a skewer or a cocktail stick in the middle. They should come out clean. Leave the cakes to cool on a wire rack.
  4. Decorating the cake is up to you. In this photo, I decorated my cake with some vanilla buttercream and a fondant heart on top. I also filled the cake with strawberry jam and buttercream. Be creative with your decoration and most importantly, enjoy yourself!
