Busker's Festival 2009
Each year, the Busker’s Festival of Barcelona welcomes street performers to the seafront neighbourhood of Barceloneta to perform small, intimate concerts where audiences are just metres from the musicians and access to all is guaranteed. If you’re planning to go along, here are a few hints and tips about getting the most of this year’s festival:
- While the shows are free, if spectators enjoy what they see, donations ‘in the hat’ are welcome.
- The outdoor concerts start at 7pm and run all evening. For those who want to keep on grooving, head to Sala Monasterio on July 31st and August 1st, where ‘after-shows’ will start at midnight.
- The range of musical genres at the festival is wide: a capella, jazz, swing, rock, fusion, flamenco and reggae are just some of those you’ll hear. Artists are coming from the UK, Brazil, France, Guinea and Australia to perform as well as closer to home.
- This year, for the first time, the festival includes a street theatre group, Radiografia Suburbana.
- If you just can’t wait for the official festival to start, there are five ‘pre-busker’ performances in five different (indoor) venues taking place in the fortnight prior to the inauguration, including: Sibaritas de la Calle in the CCCB bar on July 15th from 8pm and tango group Tanmiloguero on stage at Sala Picasso at 11.30pm.
