Sponsored by Turó Park Clinics.

Childhood is a period of life that requires specific medical care, both from a physical and psychological point of view. Pediatricians are the doctors responsible for the regular monitoring of the child's growth and development, as well as for all related interventions: prevention of illness, screening, treatment and rehabilitation.
Turó Park Clinics has both general pediatricians and specialists working in symbiosis to provide you with the highest quality of care and a comprehensive, personalized approach. At Turó Park, the child is considered at the center of everything; every child, and their condition and circumstances, is recognized as being unique.

Why Do Children Need Specific Medical Care?
The time from birth to adulthood is a key period for ensuring the proper development of the individual and the quality of social integration, but also for detecting possible abnormalities (hearing, sight, language, asthma, scoliosis, etc.). Regular follow-ups with a pediatrician are recommended to ensure your child's good health.
Children and adolescents also have specific psychological and emotional needs that must be taken into account in their medical care. Pediatricians and other child health professionals are trained to adapt their communication to the child’s age and to the comprehension skills of parents as well as children and adolescents.
Finally, from early childhood through adolescence is when important life habits are being developed and skills are being acquired. It is at this time in life when people are particularly receptive to learning and prevention. The pediatrician's role in health education is extremely important to developing healthy, lifelong habits.

How Often Should My Child Visit the Pediatrician?
Recommendations for pediatric consultation schedules vary from country to country.
The US Department of Health and Human Services recommends seven well-child visits between the ages of one and four. After four years of age, it's recommended that children visit the pediatrician for an annual check-up.
In the UK, the recommendation is a monthly visit up to six months of age. Then, one visit every two months from six to 12 months of age, and one visit every three months over the age of 12 months.
In the Spanish health system, children must see the pediatrician six times in their first year, two more times in their second year, and five times until the age of 14. From the age of 15 onward, they switch from seeing the pediatrician to the general practitioner.
Of course, you can also make an appointment with a pediatrician if your child is ill, for a visit at the clinic or at home.
How Do I Prepare My Child for a Visit to the Pediatrician?
Before going to the pediatrician, explain to your child why they have to go, what will happen during the consultation and what will be done (height measurement, weight measurement, vaccination, etc.), using age-appropriate means. Tell them that you will be there to accompany them and do not hesitate to bring toys or books to help them when they are in the waiting room.
In terms of what you can do, think about preparing for the visit by writing down information about your child's health and preparing the questions you want to ask the doctor.
