Moving to another country can be exciting, but also challenging for the body and mind, and in many cases a potential source of stress. Between new routines, long workdays and adapting to a new culture, we often stop listening to what's most important: our own bodies.
Physical activity is fundamental for maintaining good physical and mental health, and in this sense, finding a space and opportunity to move, breathe and reconnect can transform how we experience a period of change like this.
In this scenario, Pilates is much more than a physical activity. It becomes a discipline of balance and self-awareness. "Through control, breathing, and concentration, it helps improve posture, relieve tension, reinforces functional strength and reduce stress," says Marc Bonamusa Beltrán, personal trainer with a degree in sport and exercise science from Universitat Ramón Llull, author, and owner of Heltia Studios in Barcelona. He adds that "when combined with strength training and functional exercise, the results of practicing Pilates go even further: a strong, agile and aligned body with a focused and serene mind."
The Perfect Combination: Control and Power
Well-being should be understood as a holistic experience. That is why, as Bonamusa insists, "exercise sessions should integrate the best of traditional Pilates with functional training and mindful strength exercises." This hybrid approach enhances the benefits of the classic method, improving stability, mobility and muscular endurance without sacrificing precision or the mind-body connection.
The result is a complete practice, designed for real life: it helps offset long hours at the office, improves daily movement and keeps the body ready for any challenge, whether it's navigating the streets of the Eixample district or cycling along the Barcelona coastline.

A Universal Method
Pilates, by its very nature, is adaptable to all ages, levels and languages.
"This is how we understand it at Heltia," Bonamusa tells us, illustrating with an example: "In our studios, classes are primarily conducted in Spanish, but our instructors adapt their explanations to English when necessary, creating an inclusive and accessible environment for the international community that chooses Barcelona as its new home."
Moreover, he believes that in Barcelona this approach is practically inevitable: “Our team is made up of professionals from diverse backgrounds, reflecting the multicultural and international essence of this city. This diversity enriches the experience, brings different perspectives and makes Heltia a place where everyone belongs.”
A New Beginning Through Movement
Moving well means living better. Taking care of your body in a new city not only strengthens your muscles: it strengthens your connection with yourself and the community around you.
