With over 200km of bike lanes, countless parks and the perfect Mediterranean climate, Barcelona has quickly become one of the most bike-friendly cities in Europe.
Whether you’re a seasoned local, an exchange student new to the city or a businessperson looking for a time-efficient way to get to the office, cycling really is the best way to get around Barcelona. While we do have a great metro and bus system, cycling is the perfect alternative for people looking for a quick, reliable and safe way to navigate around the city, particularly if you’re conscious of our ever-growing carbon footprint.
So, let us introduce you to Swapfiets. A key sponsor at our Barcelona Expat Fair in March, Swapfiets cares about the international and professional community here in Barcelona. This month Swapfiets is launching a new campaign: “Have you seen that blue tire?”
Have you? Swapfiets’ quality bikes all sport that blue-striped tire—you really can’t miss it.

What Is Swapfiets?
Swapfiets is an international bike rental subscription service new to Barcelona that offers a wide range of bicycles to loyal customers. Once receiving your Swapfiets bike, it's yours to treat like your own without the cash outlay of buying one, but with the benefit of free service and repairs. Swapfiets offers the highest quality products and service for fair and flexible pricing.
What Does It Offer?
Swapfiets has a circular system which benefits both the consumer and the environment. There’s no waste involved, and the free repair service gives all bikes a long lifespan. A wide range of bikes is available, including electric ones, with different gear, speed, range and battery options. You can find all the details you need on the website at swapfiets.es.

How Does It Work?
Swapfiets has two subscription options:
- Flexible: you pay a one-time joining fee and can cancel anytime.
- Regular: you do not pay a joining fee and can cancel for free after the first six months.
Once you’ve decided which subscription suits you best, you can pick from different bike options, ranging in price from €12.90 to €74.90 per month.
You can check out the full details of available subscription services on the website. Or, if you prefer, you can pop into the shop for more details; the staff is happy to run you through the whole process—and in English too! Find the Barcelona store’s opening times here.
Then, once you have decided on the bike you want, Swapfiets will deliver it to your door free of charge, or you can come by the store to pick it up yourself.

Then What?
Security is, of course, an issue in Barcelona, but Swapfiets has got you covered. Each bike comes with built-in double locks as well as battery locks for the e-bikes. If anything should happen to your bike, you can get it repaired for free within 48 hours either in store or at home. If the issue can’t be repaired, your bike will be exchanged for a new one. Make sure to download the app here to access all available services.
