Welcome to the Metropolitan Culture Corner!
This month we go behind the scenes with Bea Castelló of Las Pepitas Vintage. She is a third-generation antique dealer specializing in textiles: vintage cloth, handmade laces, velvets, linens, including everything from fancy clothes to authentic period pieces for the home, such as tablecloths or bed coverings, from 1845 through the 1990s. She sells and rents her beautifully preserved pieces to film and theater production companies, as well as to private customers. Some of these have included award-winning films and plays, such as Alcarràs, La Aranya, and El Día de la Marmota.
Bea’s family has a long history in the vintage textile business as well as strong connection to Barcelona: many pieces in local museums, such as the Rocamora collection in the Design Museum of Barcelona or the textiles in the Frederic Marès museum, came mostly from Bea’s family’s warehouse, back when it was run by her grandfather. Her stories are as varied as the hundreds and hundreds of unique pieces in her warehouse.
Last month, we spoke with producer, sound engineer, recording studio owner, and musician Pau Romero. He has worked with a wide range of artists, from global icons such as Take That to Skrillex, Nathy Peluso, Flashy Ice Cream, and Xarim Aresté, to name a few. His approach to recording and production brings together a deep knowledge of a wide range of disciplines acquired over many years of experience, as well as an intuitive sense for how to connect with people and foster an open, creative working environment.
