Film still from "Yuja," directed by Lorna Tucker (UK, France, Sweden, Netherlands 2026).
A portrait with psychological depth of one of contemporary classical music’s most unique and prodigious pianists: Yuja Wang. Renowned for her virtuosic technique, a daring stage presence, and a bold style that has broken the mold, the artist faces a severe existential crisis at the peak of her career. The demands of performing over a hundred concerts a year and the relentless pursuit of perfection begin to take a heavy emotional toll. After exploring personalities like Vivienne Westwood, Greta Garbo, and Katharine Hepburn, director Lorna Tucker delves into the cracks of a solitary life to reveal the woman behind the myth. Amid childhood memories, majestic performances, and intimate reflections, we encounter her doubts, the dulling of her initial passion, and the high price of excellence. Has it all been worth it?
Film will be screened in its original version with subtitles in Catalan (Nov. 3) and Spanish (Nov. 5).
A film in the 2026 edition of the In-Edit International Music Documentary Film Festival.
