Journalists Mariam Barghouti and Zeinab Salih report from the heart of the conflict in the West Bank and Sudan. They’ll discuss the need to offer testimony and the difficulty of reporting when the world does not want to hear.
Mariam Barghouti has been reporting from the West Bank for over a decade. Zeinab Salih has done the same in Sudan and in other of the region’s countries. As journalists, they have many experiences in common: both practice journalism in the countries where they were born and have faced editorial boards that turn the suffering and oppression of their peoples into a footnote. They also share a refusal to naturalize dehumanization. For them, offering testimony is inevitably a response to the international media system, challenging simplification and refusing the disappearance of stories, lives and voices that also count.
Based on their experience on the ground, Barghouti and Salih explore the parallels between practicing journalism in Sudan and Palestine. They will discuss the costs of reporting and offering testimony in spite of geography, racism and global media silence.
Event will be held in English and Catalan with simultaneous interpretation from English to Catalan.
