Theater, black humor, choral composition, video, queer ecology. These are the languages with which Ntando Cele will bring to the stage the relationship, always complex, between humans and their waste. With music and songs and T.S. Eliot's poem The Waste Land (1923) it will guide you through contemporary scientific and sociological research into the colonialism of waste. In the form of a theatrical performance, video projection and poetic concert, Ntando Cele uses fast fashion as a symbol that links the West to developing countries. These countries produce for little money and, in addition, store the waste of the richest, one of the many expressions of neocolonialism. In this show, the audience is confronted with the Western Europe's environmental sustainability ideologies and persistent social injustice in other parts of the world, all over a ridiculously overpriced item of clothing.
Ntando Cele is a South African theater maker, based in Switzerland. As part of the Manaka Empowerment Prod company, she has been staging political comedies and musicals since 2012. Seen on stages and festivals in Europe and South America, her productions delicately dissect prejudices and stereotypes and confront audiences with their own ways of seeing the world. Among Ntando Cele's most recent creations is Black. Space. Race. A Supersonic Afrobeat performance (co-dore; 2019-2020); Go Go Othello (2020-2021) and Yes, Yes, Yes! (2024) a co-creation with the economist Corinne Maier.
Event will be held in English with Catalan subtitles.
