Vallès: Manufacturing Pasts, Manufacturing Futures
to
Palau de La Virreina la Rambla 99, Barcelona

Vallès: manufacturing pasts, manufacturing futures is a project that traces a political, symbolic and social genealogy of the factory, a perusal of the memory of the migrant proletariat in Catalonia through its production sites, ideological formulations and living spaces.
However, it is also an invitation to think about what lies ahead in times to come, what new codes of mobilization and public voice should be constructed from the industrial peripheries, what role the factory will play in the 21st century, within a globalized and transnational economy driven by the elites of financial capitalism, in the context of the drastic paradigm shift in the status of labor and the ideological role of the workers.
Taking as its specific geographical area the county of the Vallès, an area historically and politically pertaining to Barcelona’s so-called “red belt,” this exhibition culminates a complex process of dialogue and cooperation between La Virreina Centre de la Imatge and four Vallès town councils: Cerdanyola del Vallès, Ripollet, Sabadell and Terrassa.
