These sessions bring together researchers and voices from different disciplines to highlight the role of literature and fiction in shaping political imagination and opening up alternative and future-oriented scenarios.
Philosophers, sociologists and literary critics from various countries will gather at the CCCB to explore the links between literature and democracy in an era marked by ecological crisis, political instability and technological transformation. Through the work of authors such as Margaret Atwood, Octavia Butler, Kazuo Ishiguro, Michel Houellebecq, Kim Stanley Robinson, Nnedi Okorafor and Arundhati Roy, the meeting proposes a reflection on fiction as a lens through which to examine the tensions between utopian hope and dystopian threat. By questioning narratives surrounding the rise of AI, techno-optimism and Neo-authoritarianism, the sessions explore how literature contributes to reimagining freedom, power and resistance.
Event will be held in Catalan and English with simultaneous translation from English to Catalan.
