Film still from "Tow," directed by Stephanie Laing (USA, 2025).
Tow is an emotional and intimate drama inspired by a true story that highlights resilience in the face of a ruthless system. The film follows Amanda Ogle (played by current Oscar nominee Rose Byrne), a homeless woman living in Seattle out of her old Toyota Camry, moving from one job interview to the next as she struggles daily to survive. When her car—the only home she has—is stolen and later impounded by a towing company demanding exorbitant fees she cannot afford, Amanda embarks on a long legal battle to get it back. In this journey, filled with bureaucratic obstacles, injustice, and moments of desperation, she meets others in similar situations and forms bonds that help her begin to rebuild her dignity, stability, and sobriety.
Directed by Stephanie Laing, Tow uses Amanda Ogle’s story to address deeply rooted social issues such as poverty, access to justice, and the humanization of homelessness, while avoiding manipulative dramatic devices. Byrne delivers a powerful and empathetic performance as a resilient heroine rich in nuance, supported by a strong cast that includes Octavia Spencer, Simon Rex, Dominic Sessa, Ariana DeBose, and Demi Lovato, among others. The film premiered internationally at the Tribeca Film Festival, where it stood out as an impactful testimony to human dignity and daily perseverance in the face of adversity. The film stands out for its courage in tackling social issues with a balance of sharp criticism and human warmth, and for the strength of its protagonist as the narrative center, carrying the story with honesty and charisma.
Film will be screened in original version with subtitles in Spanish.
