Under the title To Exhibit - Not to Expose - To Expose - Not to Exhibit, Santa Mònica presents the first cycle of its new programming. This exhibition orbits around a series of questions that are derived from the very processes of the deconstruction and reconstruction of an arts center, in its institutional, architectural and symbolic spheres.
The first major exhibition of the new Santa Mònica reveals and questions exhibition mechanisms: the physical but invisible ones, and the immaterial ones that remain in the shadows by their very nature. The technology, high and low, that hides behind the works, the architects behind the props, the spotlights, will all be exposed in this exhibition. It also exposes the institutional gestures and (dis)affections that are hidden in any exhibition; as well as the people, those who are artists and those who are not, that support from the ground up all the creative work that is finally presented in an arts center.
For sixteen weeks, the cycle analyses the exhibition and dissemination mechanisms with which the center works and will work. A living organism, mutable, permanently in transformation, it offers different readings to each visitor and new layers with each visit.
