Kiko Amat, writer, and Valentín Roma, curator of the exhibition discuss the Exit Photography Group. Survival Programmes exhibition.
Carried out between 1974 and 1979, though published as a book in 1982 and shown at the Side Gallery that same year, Survival Programmes documents the impoverishment of the working classes of seven of Britain’s inner cities: London, Birmingham, Liverpool, Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Glasgow and Belfast. The work of the Exit Photography Group is part of a network of self-organized initiatives that drove the development of a politicized documentary photographic culture in Great Britain throughout the seventies.
