British band The Wave Pictures returns to Spain in March with a tour visiting ten cities with their latest album Gained / Lost. Recorded over seven days in early 2024, Gained / Lost brings together sixties garage rock, seventies classic rock, and nineties American indie, all infused with the DIY spirit that has guided The Wave Pictures for almost three decades.
The album’s lyrics arrive like postcards from the space where memories fragment and dreams crack, imbued with the band’s characteristic touch for the mundane. David Tattersall’s guitar throughout the album is inventive, melodic, emotional, and virtuosic, sometimes as lyrical as Jerry Garcia and at other times as sharp as Tom Verlaine, but always serving the song. British broadcaster and music critic Marc Riley has described him as “the greatest guitarist of his generation.”
On stage, The Wave Pictures are led by David Tattersall’s guitar and vocals, supported by Franic Rozycki’s bass and Jonny Helm’s drums, performing with the energy of Modern Lovers, Herman Dune, or Hefner, yet with the virtuosity of Rory Gallagher. Though often described as lo-fi pop-rock, they consistently prioritize attitude over technique and remain impervious to trends. Years have passed, yet they continue as sardonic rascals, sounding increasingly classic and daring.
