Original works for symphony orchestra range from the delicacy of music with only a few instruments to the extravagant spectacle of an orchestra consisting of almost 100 musicians, this is exactly what is to be found in this highly-varied program. At this event you can listen to a work by Joaquín Rodrigo, inspired by the same novel that also prompted Gerónimo Giménez to write his highly-celebrated zarzuela, and another from the American Schuller, in which his skillful exploration of magical soundworlds is clearly demonstrated.
The pièce de résistance is Soulful Stones by the Valencian José Suñer, the performance of which requires two full orchestras. This monumental score, inspired by different works by Gaudí, from La Pedrera to the Sagrada Família and passing through the Episcopal Palace of Astorga, premiered in Brussels in the summer of 2018, so it is now high time it was performed here in the most Gaudí city of all.
