The Song of the Earth stands out as one of the most unique among Richard Wagner’s works. Stylistically removed from the composer’s lavish orchestral performances, it is played by a small ensemble with only fifteen performers. Its intimate tone are explained by the piece’s original purpose: the composer used this short work as a birthday gift for his wife Cosima Wagner, arranging for it to be played on the stairs of their home on Christmas morning.

This musical gem will be performed in an intimate concert on three nights in October, and will be accompanied by the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra.
