"The Queen of My Dreams"
Mostra FIRE!! LGBTIQ+ Film Festival
to
Institut Français Carrer Moià 8, 08006 Barcelona

Film still from "The Queen of My Dreams," directed by Fawzia Mirza (Canada, Pakistan, 2023).
Toronto, 1999. Azra, a Muslim, lesbian graduate student, is studying acting and living happily with her (white, non-Muslim) girlfriend half a planet away from her mother, Miriam, a deeply religious woman. When her father dies unexpectedly, Azra returns to her homeland of Pakistan and relives memories of her childhood in Karachi. Although distance and mindsets have driven Azra and Mariam apart, mother and daughter, seemingly with little in common, forge a new connection at the exuberant intersection of East and West, past and present. With plenty of references to the colors and spirit of Bollywood musicals, The Queen of My Dreams is a luminous comedy-drama about the complicated (and often omnipresent) bonds between mothers and daughters.
Film will be screened in original version with subtitles in Spanish and Catalan.
A film in the 2025 edition of Mostra FIRE!! Film Festival.
