The Kooks, whose 2006 debut album sold over two million copies, have unexpectedly become icons for a new generation. While retaining their original audience, the band has amassed a large Gen Z fan base, headlining festivals and selling out shows worldwide. Social media has helped reposition them as one of the most beloved bands of the moment, bringing their unmistakable Britpop spirit to new stages.
That first album was a landmark of 2000's indie music, and its early hits defined the sound of an era. Few songs encapsulate that decade as clearly as “Naïve,” yet the group’s trajectory is far from that of a one-hit wonder. Their second album, Konk, reached number one and is one of four releases to enter the top ten.
Far from stagnating, The Kooks have continued to evolve, moving from indie rock toward synthpop and krautrock influences. Throughout their career, they have incorporated diverse inspirations, from Harris’s passion for soul and opera to Pritchard’s classical references, including Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones.
