The Future of Work in the Age of COVID-19
The coronavirus pandemic has plunged Western economies into a state of panic. Countries are dealing with skyrocketing unemployment, unprecedented state intervention, and entire industries transformed overnight – in some cases, irrevocably. Those still working have had to adapt to working remotely.
But this is only the first phase in the transformation of working life post-coronavirus. Advances in artificial intelligence mean that all kinds of jobs are increasingly at risk of automation. Contrary to popular opinion, high-skilled white-collar workers like doctors, lawyers, and architects will be among the most at risk.
So how can we all thrive in a world with less work? Economist and policy analyst Daniel Susskind has spent a decade researching the post-work world. He wrote his first book on this subject and won Book of the Year awards from the FT, New Scientist, and TLS.
We need to organize society and our personal lives to ensure that every citizen makes enough to be able to live a normal life. Daniel Susskind shows us the way during his online talk.
