The Dead South has never been characterized by constant reinvention but rather by a total commitment to a unique style. Confident in its sound and style, the group has reached the pinnacle of explosive global success in an enviable and well-deserved position: total autonomy. It doesn't matter what you call their music—progressive bluegrass, alternative Americana, country, folk or western—what matters is that it's theirs and people of all backgrounds, beliefs, experiences, languages and ages love it.

They formed in 2012 and have released four albums. Their latest, Chains & Stakes, will be released in 2026 by Just Life Music. True to form from head to toe, The Dead South isn't afraid to ruffle the feathers of traditionalists now and then with flawless execution of banjo rolls and lightning-fast mandolin tremolos, three-part harmonies and songs on classic themes: ballads of murder, betrayal, ghosts and the like, all delivered with a wink and a smile. On their climb to the top, The Dead South has learned an important lesson: if you want to be an outsider, you'd better be cool.
