The Clock Struck 13
Teatro del Sótano presents The Clock Struck 13: A Symbolic Reimagining of A Doll’s House
Teatro del Sótano brings to the stage two versions of asingle play: The Clock Struck13.
Inspired by Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House, this original productionoffers a deeply symbolic exploration of masculine and feminine energies.
The play follows the story of a theatre company rehearsing for A Doll’sHouse, and the moment when the director notices a detail that changeseverything: a stage direction following Nora’s iconic door slam—“With aglimmer of hope ‘The greatest of miracles’. Torvald repeats and leaves”Torvald leaves too! But where does he go?
This question takes the company into a dreamlike journey guided by thethree faces of the Moon Goddess. Along the way, figures frommyth—Adam, Lilith, Sir Gawain, Ragnelle, and Antigone—intertwine withthe poetry of Federico García Lorca and the Jungian psychologistHortensia Carrer’s work La Mujer Solar.
Founded in Barcelona by Venezuelan artists and featuring membersfrom Mexico, England, and Ireland, Teatro del Sótano is known for itsmulticultural approach and collective creation process. Reflecting thecompany’s bilingual nature, the production will be performed both in Spanish and English, bringing its message to diverse audiences acrosslinguistic and cultural borders.
Under the direction of Annie O’Callaghan and Nastascha Contreras,The Clock Struck 13 delves into the historical distortion of masculine andfeminine principles and poses an urgent question to its audience:Will you have the courage to transform yourself?
