The Catalan Women's Conference
to
La Model Carrer d'Entença 155, 08029 Barcelona
The Transition period in Catalunya was marked by growing activism among women who not only fought for their rights, but also played a key role in the democratization process. The protagonists of this period established a legacy of struggle that continues to influence contemporary society, where gender equality remains a central theme in political and social discourse.
The Catalan Women's Conference, held May 27–30, 1976 in the Paraninfo of the University of Barcelona, is considered the moment of the emergence in Catalunya, and later in the rest of the country, of the feminist movement of the so-called second wave. At that meeting, which was one of the first events of the transition period fully open to active citizen participation, all the claims and demands of women after the long years of dictatorship were presented for the first time in a forum for public and open debate.
