The Black Halos began in Vancouver's underground punk scene in 1994. Their loud, crunchy approach to 70s punk quickly made them stand out amidst the grunge tide, catching the attention of label Sub Pop, who were quick to sign them after witnessing one of their incendiary performances. They soon released their debut album, and a year later they recorded their seminal recording The Violent Years, which is considered to be one of the benchmark punk rock albums of the first decade of the 21st century, and a cult classic.

2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the band's formation, and they plan to celebrate it in style by reissuing their first two albums in deluxe vinyl editions, as well as celebrating the seminal The Violent Years by performing it live in its entirety; first, in the explosive concert offered at the Azkena Rock Festival and now with a full-blown tour. As Turmix said, "all punk must rock, all rock must punk".
