Physicist and engineer Miquel Sureda, astrophysicist and MIT researcher Mariona Badenas and philosopher Laura Benítez will speak in a session moderated by astrophysicist Ignasi Ribas about space as territory for scientific speculation and testing.
Mars is an inhospitable planet. Its scarcity of resources and extreme climate make it an ideal place for speculating about the future of Earth if we do not tackle the climate crisis. The idea of colonizing the red planet has led to the creation of analogical stations where the difficult conditions of life outside our planet are simulated. The results of these experiments can help not only to guarantee the survival of future space colonies but also to remedy the imbalances that human beings have brought about on Earth. What can we learn by simulating human life in space? Is Mars an ideal territory for working to find the technological solutions we need on Earth?
