Jukebox - Temporada Alta
'Jukebox'—Jordi Casanovas
Seventy-four events featuring theatre, dance, music, circus and more, with something for all ages and tastes is what's on offer from this year's Girona arts festival 'Temporada Alta' (which literally means High Season).
As always, there will be a select number of shows in English: from October 1st to 4th (with two performances on the 3rd), the play Macbeth is being put on in English (with Catalan subtitles) by the Cheek by Jowl company in the Teatre de Salt (€30). On October 31st, Peter Brook directs a performance of Shakespeare sonnets (in English with Catalan subtitles), featuring Michael Pennington and Natasha Parry. Starts at 9pm, also in the Teatre de Salt (€24).
Musical highlights include a concert of Cuban music by the Buena Vista Social Club (November 27th, 9pm, Girona Auditori, €12-28), Japanese pianist and composer Ryuichi Sakamoto (November 15th, 7pm, Girona Auditori, €25) and young British singer Charlie Winston, performing in Catalunya for the first time (December 3rd, 9pm, Girona Auditori, €15).
Other recommendations are: Slava's Snowshoe, a seasonal (if slightly early) circus starring Russian clown and co-founder of the Cirque du Soleil, Salva Polunin—October 22nd to 25th, Girona Teatre Municipal, €10-26; Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf, recommended for children three and above—October 4th, Girona Teatre Municipal, €4-12; and the first solo show of dancer Jordi Casanovas, entitled Jukebox—November 25th, Teatre de Salt, €14.
