Takuya Kuroda
to
Sala Apolo c/ Nou de la Rambla 113, Barcelona
Japanese trumpeter and producer Takuya Kuroda is the closest thing we have to a modern-day Dizzy Gillespie. The fusion of styles and elegance are two of his essential hallmarks. The musician from Kobe starts with jazz, but his unique musical formula has always been characterized by combining soul, funk, Afrobeat and a few other spices mixed in for a highly personal musical discourse.
He’s collaborated with artists such as José James, Akoya Afrobeat or Badder, and has been part of record labels with as much pedigree as Concord or Blue Note. Now, the NY-based musician returns to Piñata Music Series after releasing a streak of sensational works: the beautiful Fly Moon Die Soon (2020) which, in his own words, deals with "the paradox between the grandeur of nature and the beautiful obscenity of the human being", Midnight Crisp (2022), an amalgam of jazz, soul, funk, post-bop, fusion and hip hop, and Koo Voo (2023), an album in collaboration with Voo aka Marihito Ayabe (Chimp Beams, Loop Diary) with which he culminated a work of more than eleven years.
