Screening of the documentary "SUSI. Una elefanta en la habitación"
to
Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) Montalegre 5, 08001 Barcelona

Exploring the roots of the current problem of the captivity of animals in zoos, from a gender perspective, the documentary SUSI. Una elefanta en la habitación goes into the story of Alejandra and Susi, two animals of different species that could change the history of many individuals and mark a before and after.
Susi is an elephant who has been locked up in the Barcelona zoo since 2002. After watching her companion elephant die (Alicia), her state of health began to deteriorate. It was there when Alejandra met her and decided that she wanted to do something for her: free her. After going every day to visit her at the zoo, in 2009 she carried out a campaign to move her to a sanctuary. This campaign had a lot of international impact, but the zoo authorities did not allow this transfer to be possible. "We could not take Susi, but we'll come back for everyone" was Alejandra's motto, which inspired the new ZOOXXI campaign, a platform that aims to change the zoo paradigm globally.
Susi became a symbol for those who fight for a real change of zoos towards a more sustainable, educational and ethical model. The event will consist of:
- Screening of the documentary SUSI. Una elefanta en la habitación.
- Exhibition of visual works under the theme "Matriarchs in the world of elephants."
- Subsequent discussion "The Matriarchs."
