MasiMas ’25 features a solo performance of one of the most talented pianists of recent times: Sullivan Fortner. Known for his collaboration with Cécile McLorin Salvant, with whom he recorded the acclaimed album The Window (Mack Avenue, 2018), Fortner has also lent his artistry to luminaries such as Dianne Reeves, Wynton Marsalis, Etienne Charles, John Scofield, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Stefon Harris, Gary Bartz, Ambrose Akinmusire and even Paul Simon.
As a solo artist, he has released albums like Aria (Impulse!, 2015), Moments Preserved (Decca, 2018) and Solo Game (Artwork, 2023), all highly praised by critics and audiences alike. Born in 1986 in New Orleans, Fortner is a pianist admired by the greatest names in jazz, celebrated for the elegance and sophistication of his playing. Over his remarkable career, he has received numerous accolades—including a Grammy—and praise from peers such as Fred Hersch and Jason Moran, as well as from outlets like The New York Times, which stated that “his foundation as a performer could hardly be more solid.”
